Nearly every day, my mail has a non-vocal submission – my break room is filled with jazz and electronic dubs. Listening is a chore and writing an entertaining review is even a greater task. There is one of three directions to pursue; BS, technical or throwaway combination of both.
Something odd happened before Mid-Air was chucked airborne – the psychotic cover imagery scalded my senses. Disturbing visuals induce. If the sound is remotely as intoxicating as the art, then I’d be a stupid fool for releasing the music to THEM.
Mid-Air combines the eclecticism of the Beastie Boys’ The In Sound from Way Out with the capabilities of skilled programming and track sequencing. It is hard to listen to, but harder to put down. Genres and tones are splashed throughout, but form together into an amazing algorithm of mashed sound.
Chris Harbach is Mid-Air’s mastermind. His dementia is brilliant, intoxicating and endurable. Fans of fresh experimental music need to give disc a listen.
