Dan Fogel's legend is as a jazz organist. Decades of dedication to his Hammond B-3 has given him the audacity and expertise to record three "live" sessions with his masterful supporting players [O'Donel Levy (guitar); Pete Chavez (tenor sax) and Webb Thomas (drums)].
Only my ignorance in the genre is preventing this from being a site feature. My experience relates that music without lyrics is best left to the background; and even then, I am looking at my watch. 15 West is a spliced jam session that lasts nearly an hour. There is no vocalist to be heard, but their enthusiastic and tantalizing interpretations of old standards had me listen closely.
Dan and his musicians perform in a consistent and immaculate space. They sound as they have been playing together for an eternity. The ensemble's rhythmic solo manipulation (notably the organ) is pure, yet the musicians are aware enough to not bastardize the flow of the track.
15 West is a must for enthusiasts of accomplished musicianship.
