Like the stereotypical Irish guy referring to everyone as a "bastard", bands that cater to the Pixies consistently satisfy my curious simple pleasures. Up until now, no submitted band has quenched my dementia until The Hit & Mrs.'s Buried in the Backyard of My Heart.
Many influences beyond the above infiltrate CD's mix. The band relates that their influences include: The Kinks, The Velvet Underground, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Modern Lovers and T. Rex – I'll be damned, however, if this does not come off as a romanticized The Jesus and Mary Chain [JM&C] and Pixies effort. Buried in the Backyard of My Heart's inspirations navigate the periphery, but their seemingly incidental stumbling is what has been ignorantly missed with the last garage revival.
The Hit & Mrs. offers the long-awaited response to the Pixies covering JM&C's "Head On". The result is brilliant, unflinching and infinitely listenable. Nelly, Bubba, and V. Stak's collaborative joy drives Buried in the Backyard of My Heart.
